Conto ga Hajimaru or Life’s Punchline is one of NTV's high anticipated dramas. But sadly, the drama’s pace a bit messy as the story itself actually pretty good.

  • This is a preliminary review based on the first episode, so anything could happen in the rest of the season.

Cast : Suda Masaki, Nakano Taiga, Kamiki Ryunosuke, Arimura Kasumi, Furukawa Kotone

Screenwriter and Director: Kaneko Shigeki (screenwriter), Inomata Ryuichi, and Kanai Hiro

Genre: Friendship, Youth, Drama

Synopsis (Mydramalist)
The story of five young people in their late 20s who try to overcome their great failures in life. Haruto Takaiwa, Shunta Asabuki, and Junpei Minowa are members of the unpopular comedy trio Macbeth. They always gather at a family restaurant where Rihoko Nakahama works as a waitress. Tsumugi Nakahama is Rihoko Nakahama’s younger sister.

Pros:

This a fresh take of the youth genre, as the drama itself unveil the problems that happen in I think most of the youngsters in their 20s. The chemistry between characters especially the trio is quite good. The feeling that the casts convey to established the problem that they experience is spot on. The main storyline is actually okay per se.

Cons

At first, I do have a great expectation for this drama, since the storyline that they’re brought is simply relatable to millennials these days. Sadly, the pace of the drama is a total mess. Sometimes it fast, at the other part it really slows, at another part is moderate. Maybe it’s just me or I do not know exactly, the slangs that they’re using are a bit hard to digests. I do have to watch the subtitled one in order to grasp the full story of the drama, and I was hoping that Aimyon could at least lifting the drama slightly with her soundtrack. Nope, it wasn’t. The song is better than Kaito by Backnumber, but somehow lacks punch and it ended quite flat.

Verdict: It’s a fair drama per se, but it’s an acquired taste drama to enjoy. Either you will like it or you won’t like it at all. Personally, I like it, it’s enjoyable but a little bit hard to digest for me.

Bingeworthy: Simply No.
